The BBC is a unique and wonderful institution. But in the 1990s it had lost a sense of identity and direction. Every TV channel, radio station, programme and website had its’ own logo and tone of voice. The result was a ragbag of branding and communications. The BBC needed a golden thread that could bring together hundreds of products and services under one banner whilst allowing the creative flexibility to address different audiences.
We created a logo and architecture system that united the brands under one roof whilst giving creative freedom to the channels, from the balloon idents of BBC One and the irreverent 2’s of BBC Two to the global icon that is BBC News. We worked with the BBC for over fifteen years defining its personality and giving a public face to the diverse range of its output.
